About MIA ROSE

About the Artist

Mia Rodriguez, artistically known as Mia Rose, was born and raised in Miami and is currently living in Boston to pursue her BFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University. She previously attended New World School of the Arts high school in her hometown, which exposed her to a variety of different mediums she fell in love with, giving her the freedom and incentive to explore and experiment with them. Her growing portfolio centers around her severe phobia of insects and the process in which she dives into to help herself get over this fear. Elements of exposure therapy, beautification, and abstraction all take part of this process, and are essential to her practice. Including bright colors, childlike imagery, and humorous narratives in her compositions play a big role in showing the effectiveness of exposure therapy across her body of work.

Mia is currently focused on developing her portfolio further with fibers and textiles, but she never strays away from including other mediums in her practice, as she also frequents in printmaking, painting, drawing, performance, and installation. She takes a great interest in being able to conceptually communicate across mediums so her body of work makes sense as a whole.

She has recently had the opportunity to send her work to partake in the 8th International Litho Graphic Symposium in Tidaholm, Sweden, where her work was displayed for two weeks. Her work has also been included in a couple exhibitions that took place at the SMFA, where she showcased her performance art along with her prints. She has also exhibited her work multiple times at the Rubell Museum back in her hometown as a part of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, as well as at the Institute of Contemporary Art of Miami, New World School of the Arts, and even at the SVA gallery in New York City twice before.

Mia has also been featured in magazines for her side project, The Underground. She created this platform to support local musicians and artists during the hardest time of the pandemic and received a lot of support from the local community, which led to two features in Voyage Miami.
