In the midst of record-breaking heat, one wouldn’t expect to find droves of people making their way out towards Gramps in the heart of Wynwood. However, Indie Night warrants this pilgrimage for local band fans all across South Florida.

Hosted on August 4th, 2023 in Gramps- a staple of the local scene- the venue is the perfect place to hold a show like Indie Night, dedicated to shining a light on incredible local acts.
Folktale San Pedro kicked the night off with a lively performance starting off with their bassist-reminiscent of Cousin It- setting the rhythm for the night both sonically and energetically. The other members of Folktale San Pedro bounced around on stage, while fans sang along from the front row. Their vocoder laden, dance pop and heartfelt lyrics flooded the venue. The band made their way through the Miami local music scene in 2016, performing at iconic local locations like Las Rosas (RIP). It’s no wonder they felt at home on the Gramp’s outdoor stage.
Shortly after, The Boas took the stage next. Their energetic rock and roll tone shook the venue, while still leaning into the softer “indie” sound through their vocals. Every member looked like they were ripped out from a copy of “Rolling Stone”, delivering a lively show. Hailing all the way from from Hollywood, FL, it's always refreshing to catch them here in Miami.
Up next was Rohna, a gem of the Tampa music scene, and they’re no stranger to Gramps’ musical waters. Every performance the four-piece band has delivered is always packed with energy and impressive range of genre. From punk to indie pop, they seamlessly transition into a more alternative rock sound. Rohna’s love for local music is apparent through their Indie Night tours across the east coast. A combination of community, love for music, and dreamy guitar tones, Rohna brings all the cards to the table.
Cannibal Kids closed out the night with outfits as coastal as their music. A long standing band in the South Florida music scene, the connection they’ve built with fans over the past few years is contagious. In the midst of the set, the band broke away from their punchy guitar riffs to play “Worms” -a softer song- on an acoustic guitar. Slowly, you could see the crowd begin to pull up images of worms on their phones to hold up during the song. It was a sweet moment that perfectly defines the connection between the musicians and fans in the local scene, the exact thing Indie Night stands for.
The East Coast leg of the Indie Night tour ends in Orlando on August 25th, at the Abbey featuring some central Florida bands including Better Than This, The Pheromones, 0 Miles Per Hour and of course, Rohna! A night any fan of great energy-and even greater music- wouldn’t want to miss.
